Serving in Kenya

Wow! What a whirlwind journey so far! Once we arrived in Kenya it’s been go go go! I apologize for the lack of updates but WiFi is spotty here.

Everyone made it to Turtle Bay safely, some had more of an adventure than others with cancelled flights and all. And one of our LBT folks still has a piece of checked luggage that has not arrived (it made a detour to Istanbul instead of arriving in Kenya)

Russ and Lisa help us begin and end each day with worship. We have been providing a variety of worship styles and Lisa has been willing to lead a hymn/song sing! We brought blue hymnals and printed up service books so that the missionary families could take them home and use them for worship back in their respective countries. We’ve been extra blessed in that some of the missionaries are willing to help with worship too – Andy is playing his new guitar and Carl and Kelsie will help lead us in Holden Evening Prayer tonight!

Kayla, with the help of Russ, Lisa and Sarah from LBT, has been leading activities for the kiddos. They have all been very open to us and have enjoyed having the opportunity to play, learn, and grow with us. It’s been so much fun working with them!

While the kiddos have been occupied, Pastor Matt has the opportunity to lead the group in some Bible Study and learning opportunities. Part of our desire with this retreat is to facilitate opportunities for the missionaries to connect and share with one another.

Of course our days are of just full of “work,” we’re also trying to provide opportunities with fun. We want families to have a little break together, or allows the adults to connect in the evening. Our Cross Team is very flexible, so whether that means watching kids in the pool, or sitting outside the room while kiddos sleep, our missionaries are able to have meaningful connections with friends and family.

I want to assure everyone that we are safe and having a great time. We know there are difficulties all over the world. It’s been an absolute joy worshipping, studying, playing, and making new friends. Keep us in your prayers. Pray for these missionaries who deal every day with unrest in this part of the world. But also pray that God fills them up through us during this time of refreshment!

In His Hands

Pastor Matt
